My friend/co-worker, S is a
low talker.
As defined by Jerry Seinfeld, a "Low Talker" is
- a woman who speaks in a very low (sometimes sub-sonic) voice
- a woman who speaks in a low, inaudible tone in order to trick some-body into wearing a funny looking shirt on a nationally televised talk show
While she hasn't tried to trick me into wearing a funny looking shirt, she does speak in a sub-sonic voice. And because she does that, I have a tendency to tune out. I can even type things while she is talking (like right now) and she just keeps yapping. I've even been told that she can't be in my office because the boss "knows we are friends, and doesn't want to see this escalate" (whatever the fuck
that means). I told S about that, and she totally ignored it (easy for her - I was the only one spoken to about it). She also totally ignores when I am typing and not looking at her. She will just stand in front of my monitor so that she is in my line of sight. It truly is a case of "I see your lips moving, but all I hear is blah, blah, blah..."
Don't get me wrong, S is very sweet and kind. I just wish she would speak up.
